What are the Elegies in The Odyssey?
In one of my college classes we’re reading and discussing Homer’s Odyssey. We’re almost done with the book; I’m at the part where Odysseus comes back to Ithaka and, under the disguise of a beggar, he goes with Telemakhus and the swineherd to his hall to scope out the suitors and plot his revenge.
I missed class today so I emailed my professor asking what I missed and whatnot, and he said I need to go to our modules folder online (where the syllabus and sometimes assignments are posted) and read the question about the Elegies and hand in my answer on Wednesday. The thing is, I have no idea what the Elegies are. Never heard of them. And I didn’t find the question my professor is talking about so I’m pretty clueless as to what he’s talking about.
There are a lot of parts earlier in the book that I skipped, like the part with the Cyclopes, Circe, when he goes to Hades, etc. But every day that we meet in class we talk about what we read, and no one ever mentioned any Elegies. So it might be in the next part of the reading, but I don’t know. Do you guys know what my professor is talking about? I’m not asking anyone to do my work for me, I just want some idea what the Elegies are so I’ll know if it’s coming up in the reading or if it’s in the parts that I skipped. Thanks!
Im not sure I can really help here as I have never read this book but you could always try this link
