I'm getting a ferret, need some tips?
My brothers friend is unable to take care of his ferret, so he’s giving him to us. My brother has enough for the food and whatnot. My parents don’t know about it, since they would never let us get one. So for the cage, until we can buy one, we have this really long plastic tub that we’ve poked airholes in all over, and we’re going to put mesh squares in it. Keep in mind that this is only temporary. For bedding, we have a bunch of cat litter, so we’re going to use that and put something soft like a blanket over it, or some old t-shirts. We have tubs that we can use for food/water, and we can make some homemade toys that I’ve googled. I’ve thoroughly researched it, and there are a few things I have questions about. For one, do you really have to brush it’s teeth? And how often? And about clipping it’s nails, can you really use normal nail clippers? And any tips on how to do that?
Is there anything else that you think I should know?
And please, no "you shouldn’t do this if your parents don’t know about it" answers cause I’m stubborn as heck and I’m not backing out of it. The only way they’ll know is if Nut gets sick, and they have to take him to the vet. They won’t be happy, but they wouldn’t turn down a sick animal. If it comes to that, I would rather him be healthy and given away or sold than dead. So just tips, no ‘tell your parents’ crap, please. I’m responsible enough to take care of this ferret with my brother.
Oh, and does anyone have any easy home-made toy ideas? We’ve got a few but we want our little Nut to be happy and content. :3
For my ferret I brought ferret nail clippers, a extremely large three tower cage, a hammock, water bottle, sturdy no tipping over food dish, ferret shampoo, ear cleaner, a corner potty tray, tunnels, ferret cleaning spray to clean out the cage everyday and scott paper towels and a leash. Just like all other pets you need to have money to take care of them. If you can not buy all of the above I suggest you not to take in the ferret. Just like all other animals you need to provide love, attention and training everyday , not just because it is new to the home at first and 2 months later its old a boring. In some areas vets recommend you get shots for ferrets because they are exotic animals ~ please keep this in mind as well, I hope you can pay for the vet bills.Yes, you will want to brush their teeth to prevent gum disease, you bathe once a month (only once a month so you wont strip the natural oils from it and give him dry skin you do not want to bath too much because his body has to work too hard to replace the oils and then too much working and replacing their natural oils the ferret will begin to stink) Now and then as a special treat (when training) you can give your ferret a small bit (size of a penny) of peanut butter.Yes, you need the clip their nails. Be careful clipping their nails if you cut it too short they will bleed alot. You can buy quick stop to apply to their nails. You only cut to the pink of their nails leaving a small bit of white still left on. Clipping depends on how fast his nails grow. I did mine once a month along with his bath, and ear cleaning Solution. Clipping also depends on if you take him outside how often will he walk on sidewalks, gravel pavements Etc; compared to grass and soft textures. You will also want to brush its fur once a week to help its shedding and prevent hair balls.I would not take the animal into your home until you are completely prepared for it, meaning you have all supplies you need.

well, they would find out within one year. because. ferrets need yearly canine distmeper shots and rabies vaccinations yearly, i dont think youve done enough research yet if you didnt know that.
